Privacy Policy

Glopaw is a platform dedicated to promoting ethical and responsible wildlife AI-assisted photography. This page clearly outlines the ethical guidelines and related privacy policy you need to know about. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, or safeguard your information when you use our mobile app, websites, or other related services.

The nature of the information we may collect from you

Below are the different types of information we may collect from you:

Personal information

When you install and sign up for our wildlife tagging app, we may collect your information. The information collection happens when you:

  • Sign up for an account with your email address, name, and profile photo
  • If you contact us for support or feedback
  • If you subscribe to relevant updates
Image & media data

If you upload photos of wildlife through the app, we may collect the following data:

  • Image metadata: We may extract metadata (EXIF) such as time, date, location (If enabled), and device information.
  • AI analysis: We use a smart AI-assisted dashboard to put your snap in the right wildlife species categories. We also use the same AI-powered feature to identify any human bycatch. This technology can also identify many ethical flags, like drone use, baiting, and making animals unlawfully captive.
Location data

We may ask for your permission to collect some GPS data. With this data, we can precisely:

  • Geo-tag wildlife sightings
  • Offer real-time conservation alerts
  • Warn users of local photography restrictions, such as national parks, reserves, or private land
Device and usage data

We may also collect auxiliary data, like:

  • IP address
  • Device type and OS
  • Crash logs
  • Usage analytics (To improve functionality and user experience)

How we channelize the users’ information

We utilise your data to achieve the following ends:

  • To facilitate photo upload and tagging features
  • To provide real-time species identification by photographs
  • To encourage ethical standards of wildlife photography
  • To offer location-based alerts regarding endangered species, threatening animals, drone presence, and conservation areas.

*We never share or sell your personal data to third parties.

Ethical & legal standards we adhere to

We are committed to ethical nature documentation and legal wildlife photography practices. Glopaw aids most international conservation frameworks, including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the National Wildlife Federation- Photography Guidelines.

Following these legal conventions, we have incorporated the following built-in safeguards in our app:

  • Optional GPS masking for endangered species. If photos of endangered or rare species surface in our app, we may mask the location for the safety and conservation of the species.
  • Before uploading, the users may be prompted to disclose whether the image was taken with a drone or if baiting, staging, or captive animals were involved.
  • The app may send the users geo-fencing alerts for the protected areas.
  • The app may also auto-blur human faces captured due to mistakes.

Sharing & Disclosure Policy

We only share your data with your permission and consent. These are the following cases when we may share your data:

  • With conservation partners: We may share your data sets about animals in anonymized and aggregated formats for ecological and environmental studies.
  • If required by law: If required by law, like subpoenas or regulatory investigations, we may have to share your data.
  • To prevent ecological harm: If the image data poses risks like poacher-accessible coordinates, we may have to share it with the government officials.

Data retention & control

You are always in control of your account, and you have access to every bit of your account.

  • Images and related data are retained as long as your account is active
  • You can delete your images or your entire account anytime
  • Metadata and device logs are anonymized after 12 months
